Canterbury Downtown

WELCOME TO CANTERBURY DOWNTOWN

Canterbury Downtown is a community of students from New York University, The Fashion Institute of Technology, The New School, Cooper Union, Hunter College, Pace University and more.

This is an open and inclusive Christian community of, by, and for college and university students from campuses around Manhattan.

Students of all religious and cultural backgrounds are invited to join this Episcopal campus ministry with the mission to connect with one another, reach out to connect with the wider world and grow together in Christ.

We gather for worship, a home-cooked meal, conversation and community building happen on Sunday nights at 6:00 p.m. during the academic year at Grace Episcopal Church (10th Street and Broadway).

Explore Canterbury

  • Worship with CanterburyNYC Downtown comes in many forms, depending on the season.

During the academic year (September to May) Canterbury Downtown meets weekly for Sunday night Eucharist and dinner at Grace Church.

On Sunday evenings, students gather for Holy Communion, (prayers and the sharing of bread and wine,) at 6 p.m. in companionship with members of Grace Episcopal Church at 10th Street and Broadway

Students and community members gather for story, song, prayer, and the ancient mandate that we remember Christ when we break bread and drink wine together. We do this in the traditions of the Episcopal Church found in the Book of Common Prayer and other resources.

Worship is both personal and communal. All are welcome – to join us, to ask questions, to watch and pray, to share in our fellowship, and to connect with God and one another.

  • Students enjoy a home-cooked meal on Sunday night following the 6 pm Holy Eucharist at Grace Church (10 Street & Broadway).

Dinner is free and is sometimes made by students, brought from homes or catered in from restaurants. A vegetarian meal is always offered and other dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice.

Dinnertime conversation and community building around various topics: current events, spiritual practice, scripture reflection, student led topics and guest speakers.

Our Facebook group Dinner with Canterbury Downtown is an online chat space for sharing recipes and conversation topics.

  • Students build community when we gather for dinner and conversation, for service projects and for fun!

Dodgeball, Central Park study breaks, Movie Nights...

These are just a few of the fun ways our students take time to rest and play together during the stress of the the semester!
